This thread could be used to post pictures of construction and news of new construction projects. When I visit colleges, I often see multiple construction projects underway. Mercer is no different. Mercer today is not the Mercer of just five years ago. And the Mercer of 2017 will look even more different. Some sports message boards post pictures and updates of their school's construction projects. Alumni who don't live close to campus but enjoy participating in sports message boards seem to like these construction threads. "The university has six major construction projects in various stages over the next couple years, totalling about $150 million." By 2017, Mercer might be looking to expand the football stadium. Looking forward to seeing the improvements to the baseball facilities.

Technically - the stadium will be expanding after the 2015 Season...just this expansion won't be many seats. They are going to build a press box/press tower on the double-decked side. I do not know if they will be putting any box seats and/or a 'club level' in when they do that, but it would certainly make sense to. They can also then convert the existing press box to box seats. I'm sure the plans are drawn, but I haven't seen them. My understanding is that construction will begin as soon as the final home game of the 2015 Season has been played...so, I expect that will the the FCS National Championship Semifinal game in mid/late December...unless the Bears get a raw deal on the playoff seeding/bids...or however they do it in the FCS these days.

Would they convert the current press box to box seats or add a complete second deck on that side, making it more symmetrical? Or maybe both somehow.

Or maybe both somehow. 2nd tier on the College Street side is Phase III, as I understand the long-range plan. I imagine the timing of the initiation of Phase III is dependent upon the continued & consistent success of Mercer Football in terms of attendance, which will, much more likely than not, be dependent upon the Bears success on the field. So, if you want Phase III initiated, your job is to show up EVERY home game Saturday, bring 2 friends, invite 10 more, cheer like crazy for the Bears, and to keep doing this even if the Bears don't win 'em all for the next few years. Also, giving to the MAF as much as you can will go a LONG way to accomplishing each of these goals.

construction.mercer.edu/mu-construction/macon/undergraduate-sciences-building/images/medscience_2.jpgHow do I insert an image? I was going to insert a picture of the new science building and comment that the black roof strikes me as a bad design choice. Silver would have been better. Actually, I think for a science building I would have gone more modern with the design. Lots of glass and metal being used on new college science buildings lately. But it does look better than all the other buildings in that area.

If you do have a URL for the image, just click on the picture icon (the hill with the trees on it in the frame - it will say "Insert Image" when you mouse over it) and the rest is pretty self-explanatory. If the image is stored on your computer, you can upload it at various services to get a URL - postimage.org - tinypic.com - Imgur.com and others - and then follow the steps above once you have the URL. Here's a pic I like...

I'm of the opposite opinion on the building architecture. Considering the school has been at this location since 1871, I absolutely love the fact that they have been consistent in the look and feel of the architecture, with the Art building really being the lone exception.
Also I think this rendering looks a bit more modern while maintaining the theme especially with the red brick.

Thanks
I did not see the "Reply" at the top. I was only using the "Quick Reply" where there was no way of inserting a picture.

It sits in the middle of four horrible late 70s and early 80s buildings that look like they belong in a low-rent office park. It needs to be more bold. The tread on campuses is to have very modern science and engineering buildings. The current design doesn't cut it. I think it also needs to be a "U" and not a "L", something like below. The Penn State building below is $45M for 145,000 sq feet. The current Mercer design is for a $30M 120,000 building.

Or one of you could make a big donation and Mercer could build this. $51M

i think the new science building looks more like a dorm than a modern science building.

If MU wanted to go traditional, this would look good on campus. Nazareth College's new science building. The price tag in 2013 was $30M.
