If lessons are learned in defeat, the kicker is getting a great education. Hey recruit "Baby Lou" from Colquitt Co. Not sure if you are a Furman fan, but Hollingsworth is arguably the best kicker in the SoCon (in my opinion, only the UTC kid is in the conversation). Maybe you missed several of the other game winning kicks he's made this year, including the 55 yarder to beat UCF. I think he was talking about our kicker.

Yep, he was - simmer down Jackal - go work on beating those rat-eating porch yappers!!!

I watched the Furman produced ESPN3 replay to see the no call on the Roughing the Kicker FG attempt at 1:18 to go in the game. While they talk about bodies strewn all over the field they only showed the end zone camera angle. Keep in mind that a properly called roughing penalty would have given Mercer first down with 1:10 to go and Furman with no time outs. Game over. Keep in mind that a properly kicked FG would have given Mercer a 9pt lead...and no need for all this roughing penalty chatter!! And Mr. Carter your "Baby Lou" could not carry a ball bag for Mercer!!!

While true. I was mainly pointing out that while some Furman fans thought the spiking penalty cost them the game, that there was another questionable call that went the other way.

I don't think anyone thinks the penalty cost Furman the game. Not showing for half the contest cost us the game. Now, I will say that the penalty didn't help matters. One can nitpick every call or non-call in a football game. Even with the penalty, it was still a makeable kick. Hollingsworth had not missed any extra points in two years, and was perfect on field goals inside 40 this year. That was as ugly a kick as I've seen him attempt in two seasons. Just was not meant to be. I'd be interested to know Lamb's thought process on the penalty, though. Apply the penalty to the extra point and hope a guy that has not missed from that distance all year misses. Alternatively, apply the penalty to the kick and see if you can get a return to midfield with a few timeouts and time on the clock to win it anyway.

I'd need to see a close up replay to be sure, but someone said a Mercer player actually tipped the ball.
