Yes, but he didn't play all of those teams in the same season. So, yes he played Johnson C. Smith, along with UGA, 8 conference games, and 4 playoff teams. I don't know where Elon was situated in that 2000 season, but they may have been D1 then as well. I am not discrediting Stanford Jennings. He had 11 fewer 100 yard rushing games than Ivory. Ivory holds three of the top four single-season rushing marks at Furman (Carl Tremble holds the other). Now, I will grant you that Jennings was a better receiver. Ivory couldn't catch a cold.

And Lakes will play no Sub D1 games next year and likely during the rest of his career, from what I understand...so that little jab was just pointless...both did/will play against SoCon teams, both did/will play against FBS teams, both did/will play against Sub D1 teams...next thing you'll be arguing is that Peterson's jersey was heavier or he had to play more games on grass fields...or some other triviality to try to create a difference and, of course, to take another (quasi-courteous) jab at Mercer Football. The position of RB involves rushing, receiving, and blocking. Stanford was an amazing runner, an elite receiver (for a RB - that's why the Bengals used him primarily in that capacity for 8 years), and an absolutely devastating blocker. Pretty fair kick returner too. Although he didn't do that at FU/SoCon....just in the NFL...took 1 to the HOUSE in the Super Bowl....pretty short conversation when discussing the number of players who have done that. Stanford was also a true LEADER...not one of those guys that the Coaches 'say' is a Leader cuz it sounds good to say that about your most talented player....a TRUE LEADER! I'm not taking anything away from Peterson or Ivory either...but you said 'no one else was in the conversation'...and you're just wrong. I saw them all 3 play a lot and I would take #27 in Purple over the other 2 without any hesitation whatsoever. The bottom line is he could do everything that they did just as well and then he could do so many more things so much better.

Everything I have said to this point has been prefaced with "this is my opinion." You can have your opinion, too. There was no intended jabs at Mercer football, quasi-courteous or otherwise. Mercer's schedule is what it is. Heck, I would make that schedule for a second year program were I the AD.

A lot of people in remote lands still believe the Sun revolves around the Earth. ...and it's my OPINION that your jabs at Mercer Football, across the message board 'world,' have been frequent, mostly un- or under-informed, unfair, and always couched in very courteous language...."she doesn't sweat much for a fat girl and is a fantastic cook" kind of comments... On to Beating the Bellhops...and I hope the 'Dins get it together and KO the Keydets on Saturday...

I've never seen a team take on so much water during a season. At this point, I would just be happy to see a win again. Our "winning streaks" over teams have been falling hard this season.

Hated the play call on the 2 pt conversion. Yea I agree. I love Coach Lamb, but I hated that one. It screamed "We're not good enough, so we have to try a trick play"... The sad thing is, we ARE good enough.

The weather was a huge consideration - it was 45-50 in the stands with BRUTAL gusts. The stadium had emptied out by the half except for people who packed for Siberia.
It was obviously an issue on the field too, lots of Bears cramping up, hard to throw/kick into, etc.
There was a hell of a rally at the end, but it was too little too late.

That weather looked miserable. The good news is Mercer showed once again that they can hang with anyone -- as only a 2nd year team. I'm really looking forward to the next 2 games, and of course gearing up for the 3rd year of the program revival. Go Bears! Great effort today.

I really appreciate how the Bears are competing in these SoCon games. I wish we could have pulled this one out. Just couldn't stop them enough and didn't get the offense going soon enough.

I know we competed and hung tough with the competition, but I just gotta say that this one hurt a bit more than the other "close but no cigar" SoCon losses. Don't get me wrong, I know that Mercer is still beating expectations and that we are competing with only 38 scholarship players versus 65, but I thought we let this one get away in the first half and didn't play up to the caliber that we can play. Then again, I look at the UTC-WCU score and shake my head. In reality, the Bears are so close to being a title contender. Another play here and there and we are dancing in the street. I just love how these guys don't ever give up.

One other observation, given where we are in the program, injuries are going to hurt us more than other programs right now and the Bears have certainly had their share this year. Off the top of my head I can count 6-7 starters out and a couple more that are playing at less than 100%. I know that injuries are part of the game, but by definition (i.e. new program, only 38 scholarships, etc.) we are going to have less depth than other SoCon programs, so injuries are going to hurt us more. I'm not trying to make excuses, but just trying to be real.

Not that I'm making the case, but, to be fair, in that offense, lots of carries for AP. His career average was 6.6 YPC. Lakes is 6.2 so far. As a freshman. Just sayin'... Adrian Peterson also didn't play against Stetson, Ave Maria, Reinhardt, and Warner. Louis Ivory at Furman rushed for 2,000+ yards and 19 touchdowns as a junior and had 31 100 yard games. He did not play in a triple option offense either. Again, that is not a critique of Lakes. Peterson and Ivory are arguably the two best FCS running backs of all time, and really the only two in the conversation in the SoCon. This is just my opinion, but Peterson, Ivory, Armanti Edwards (App State), and Randy Moss (Marshall) were just on another planet talent-wise. We could have a long conversation about which players belong in the second level behind those four. Would be hard to exclude Thomas Haskins from that list of all time SoCon running backs, if not solely for his lack of supporting cast at VMI. What he accomplished during his time there was remarkable. Prior to Adrian Peterson and Louis Ivory coming along, he was in the top 5 in I-AA rushing stats all-time.
