So, looks like Auburn and Yale OOC to this point. Need to add one more OOC to get to 11 games. Anyone heard anything about scheduling? Also, could we see teams (Elon, W&M, Richmond) coming to the SoCon for 2022 or would that be later??

I,d like to see Mercer develop an OOC rival with someone they play every year.

No way any moves will be made before this fall, it takes a couple of years to get that kind of stuff done. And none of the teams you mentioned are likely to come back to the SoCon. IMO the best bet is OOC against southeastern PFL, Big South, or Ohio Valley teams. Still scratching my head as to why that didn’t happen this year. Blame it on Covid I guess, but others schools got their schedules filled out. Jim Cole??

This was suggested on the Furman forum, but Mercer had Charleston Southern scheduled and then bought them out to schedule Point. Some reports from Charleston Southern suggests Mercer was in fact on the schedule: www.live5news.com/2021/04/22/bucs-announce-football-schedule/My only explanation has to be that Mercer didn't want to play 6 road games and three straight on the road to open (CSU and Alabama were both scheduled on the road). I guess they never really had a third OOC opponent. Instead of playing 6 road games, they picked up Point and went 5 home 5 road.

If you are a Massey-o-phile & read the FCS Playoff Selection Committee’s ‘tea leaves’ last Sat., these 2 would be the best OCC opponents to consider trying to schedule for 2022. Conveniently regional & the Bears have played them in recent years (PC should ‘owe’ the Bears a Home game, BTW)…but, more importantly, they are the 2 worst D1 (“counters”) Teams in College Football…per Massey.
Stetson | Pioneer | 3-7 | 127 | 1.38 Presbyterian | Pioneer | 2-9 | 128 | 1.06
In case anyone needs this info…

But true! Yep…FUBeAR compiled the info below for use elsewhere, but thought it relevant to share here… Mercer needs to start scheduling PFL & Transitioning Teams, like Stetson & Dixie State, annually to pad their win totals like 9 of the 11 Big Sky & MVFC Playoff Teams At-Large & Seeded Teams did… * 6–5 Northern Iowa played 1 and squeaked into the Playoffs as an At-Large with a padded ‘winning’ record. * 9-2 Montana State played 2 and picked up, not only an At-Large bid, but a #8 Seed with their padded win total * 8-3 UC Davis played 2 and picked up an At-Large bid with that extra win padding * 9-2 Montana played 1 and picked up, not only an At-Large bid, but a #6 Seed with their padded win total * 9-2 Sacramento State played 1. They did earn the Big Sky (with favorable in-Conf. scheduling) AQ bid, but that padded win total sure helped them get that #4 Seed * 8-3 Missouri State played 1 and got an At-Large bid. Surprisingly, they didn’t get a Seed, but their padded win total put them ‘in the conversation’ for one * 7-4 Southern Illinois played 1 and got an At-Large bid with their padding, while losing 3 of their final 4 games * 8-3 SDSU played 1 and got an At-Large. That little extra padding sure didn’t hurt * 10-1 NDSU played 1. Yep, even the #2 Seed padded their win total a little bit this year Those [PFL & Transitioning] Teams are the WonderBra of FCS. We just need to strap them onto our schedules annually!

Both also have exciting bands Agree 100% from a GameDay experience & relatively competitive standpoint. Attended NC A&T @ Furman this season & it was a great day…and very good game. BUT…if Mercer wants to impress the selection committee and enhance the likelihood of receiving an At-Large bid and/or a Seed, the Bears don’t need to schedule relatively competitive FCS Teams like FAMU or Alabama State. Gotta pad that resume by beating our former PFL brethren…most of whom we beat when we had a Team made up almost exclusively of Freshman Walk-ons.

The schedule so far - assembled from fbschedules.com from other teams that have announced theirs:
Sept 3 - at Auburn
Sept 10 - unknown
Sept 17 - The Citadel
Sept 24 - unknown
Oct 1 - at Wofford
Oct 8 - unknown
Oct 15 - unknown
Oct 22 - at Chattanooga (1:30pm kick time currently)
Oct 29 - at VMI
Nov 5 - unknown
Nov 12 - Furman
Nov 19 - unknown
That leaves Samford, ETSU, and Western Carolina among conference opponents. ETSU and WCU would be home games, I believe, and Samford would be on the road. There's also two (hopefully D-1) non-conference games and a bye week to book.
