"Archer quarterback Carter Peevy made a commitment Friday to the Mercer University football program and its new head coach, Drew Cronic. Peevy was previously committed to Lenoir-Rhyne, where Cronic was the coach before being hired at Mercer earlier this week. " As long as Cronic continues to bring in those Division II players, we will be ok, I'm sure they are better than those FCS caliber players that Lamb recruited. Dude, he's been in the job for 2 days. How do you think this works? He just shows up on campus on Tuesday with a hip-ful of FCS players he's been recruiting for the last year just in case he made it through his season and got an FCS job? I'm sure he's communicating with the commits that CBL had been working for a year to try and get them to keep their commitments, but he still has to put a class together. And the early signing day is next week. We do need to have some kind of class. But since, based on your tone, you think he's handling this terribly, how exactly would you like to see him do it? Maybe he reads this and you can educate him. There are inherent risks associated with changing coaches. Gaps in recruiting is one of them. Especially with an early signing period now in place and a dead/quiet period starting next week. Difficult too is that he is simultaneously trying to put together a staff. The coaching carousel will spin for a while, though. One interesting thing about Cronic (maybe not that interesting) is that I have not seen him move as a "package deal" between coaching jobs. When he went from Reinhardt to Furman, he was the only coach that did. No Furman coaches joined him at Lenoir Rhyne. I'd be interested if he's brining any assistants to Mercer. Sometimes you'll see an entire coaching staff go to the next location. Edit: Twitter, as usual, answers the question -

I saw several of these kids’ Twitter response to Coach Foster on the FB Tailgate page. One had a 3.721 GPA and 950 SAT. Two questions: how is that even possible (grade inflation?) and does that even qualify for D-1?

I saw several of these kids’ Twitter response to Coach Foster on the FB Tailgate page. One had a 3.721 GPA and 950 SAT. Two questions: how is that even possible (grade inflation?) and does that even qualify for D-1? Hey, some peeps just don’t test well. I know 2 kids pretty well & 1 of them blows the top off of any standardized test, but had some struggles in the GPA arena. The other one just might approach single digit percentiles on some areas of standardized tests, but has a BS from a very selective university in GA & will soon add an MS, in a medical field, on top of that BS. Both are really smart young peeps; they just different. Some schools (Furman is one) don’t even require SAT/ACT scores these days for admissions of non-athletes. Pretty sure prospective student athletes still have to take one of them to establish their NCAA eligibility. BREAKING NEWS UPDATE/EDIT: 4.0 in Grad School this semester for “example B” cited above. To specifically answer your question, the NCAA uses a sliding scale taking into account GPA & standardized test scores. For that prospective Student-Athlete, he should have no problem qualifying under NCAA standards in those areas... NCAA DIVISION I SLIDING SCALE Core GPA SAT Verbal and Math Only 2.175 950 There are other requirements, of course, NCAA ELIGIBILITY CENTER QUICK REFERENCE GUIDE, & admission to each school & possibly, using higher eligibility standards, is determined by the schools themselves.

That Lowndes Viking comes Wang-T certified! Wonder if that 7-A Championship game might have turned out a little differently if Mr. Osby had been able to play? I believe he injured something a couple of weeks ago in the Playoffs. Not sure what, nor how serious it was. Lots of FBS & ‘High’ FCS offers.
