I won't post a link as I would hate to subject anyone else to the inane drivel at this site, but I just thought some of you might be interested in what the folks up in Cullowhee think about the Bears.
[REDACTED] SoCon Strength of Schedule Rankings
Taking a look at the SoCon football's strength of schedule (SOS) hinges on each team's out of conference (OOC) games.
Since 2015 is restricted to an eleven game schedule, each Southern Conference team can schedule up to four (4) OOC games, given that each team will play a seven (7) game conference schedule.
We've ranked what we feel is the SOS for each SoCon team, as well as, projected their overall win/loss record for 2015.
#8. Mercer OOC games: @ Austin Peay; Stetson; @ Tenn Tech; ETSU (2015 Mercer projection: 2-9 overall)
...Discuss.

I'm guessing he has Mercer beating Stetson and ETSU. I expect Mercer to be 6-5 at the worst. It won't be an easy schedule but I think we have a shot to win all of our ooc games and beat VMI. We should also get at least 1 win against the rest of the SoCon. The upside for Mercer is huge and I hope to see a good deal of improvement over last year. And we gave most the SoCon a good battle last year.

I don't mind subjecting you to the "inane drivel" of the site, the site is Purple & Gold, and here's a link

I clicked that link and now my computer has some kind of virus. I'm not saying that's what caused the problem, but my IT Support Team said it's called the "Feline Leukemia Virus" or something like that. Be careful out there, freens. The interwebs can be a dangerous place to play!

I hope you'll all make it up to the Great Smoky Mountains for the game.
Enjoy the beautiful Cullowhee valley, very good tailgating spots, and probably the friendliest fan base in the conference. Come early, and enjoy a weekend in Jackson County.
If you have any questions, I'll be glad to try an answer them.

More links! - I had our IT Security Team check these though...they're OK I didn't see the RESERVED for Visitor's Tailgate Location on the Campus Map though...hoping for a SWEET spot like the Catamount faithful rec'd when they visited Macon last Fall - right next to the Stadium with a great Tailgating situation. Any guidance on that? Also - this is an interesting video about Cullowhee - pretty country for sure -

Most visiting fans that want to tailgate, park in one of the two lots around the baseball stadium.
All parking (in the general lots) is free...... so take your pick (other than the reserved Catamount Club parking)
(I highly recommend 8A or 8B on the map as the best site for visitor tailgating).

"General Parking, WCU & Visiting Fan Tailgating" is not exactly a designated, RESERVED Tailgate spot like the great location right next to the stadium the Catamount Fans were given last Fall in Macon, is it? No worries - we'll find our spot & turn up - just like we did in Lexington, B'Ham, Chattanooga (woohoo, that was a good one & a great game too...came up just a few inches short dangit!), and Spartanburg. They wouldn't provide any assistance in reserving a Visitor's Tailgating location either. I guess FU, WCU, and ElCid fans pulled one over on the 'new kid' last year with the cooperation and reserved tailgating locations their fans were provided by Mercer. Oh well...it's a shame schools in the SoCon can't get together on that and come to a reciprocal agreement. Sure would make those away games more fun, easier to manage for visiting fans...and might even lead to increased attendance...

The reserved site at Mercer this past year was very nice. However, it was not a site set aside for WCU tailgating in particular, it was a site requested by and reserved for Catamount Club members. The Catamount Club always requests space at all away games, and provides food & beverages for Catamount Club members. I was there, and noted many WCU fans tailgating in various parking lots, in addition to the Catamount Club area.
I'm sure if someone from the Mercer Athletic Foundation wanted a reserved spot for members of the MAF, and were to, contact the director of the Catamount Club. they would reserve a site for the MAF for it's members if they to are going to provide food and beverages.
Just like the Catamount Club did, you've got to ask to get a reserved space.
Many thanks for the location provided at Mercer, even though I had to pay to park at Mercer, it was a short walk to where the CC set up, and as you said, it was close to the stadium.
Enjoy Cullowhee.

Enjoy Cullowhee. We'll see if what you say is true. It was NOT true at VMI, Samford, Chattanooga, or Wofford. I will say that Samford was the most helpful of those 4. After repeated calls to various officials there, a conference call was held with about 10 folks on the line from Samford. End result - they stuck a 3 foot high sign in the ground which said "Visitor's Tailgate." The sign was adjacent to a General, Non-Reserved parking area; the farthest one from the stadium, and, really the only one with absolutely no trees/shade/grass nearby. That was the BEST cooperation rec'd from any of the 4. Needless to say, we did NOT tailgate there. Instead, we commandeered a beautiful location near the stadium with trees and grass all around and had a marvelous time. We have a large group that arrives early and goes hard. It would be nice, though, if some of our later arrivals were able to join us. At VMI, they make you park like Six Flags....each car in is directed to the furthest available spot. They would not reserve a spot for us. We overcame that day by 'rallying' at the Kroger nearby and did our best to stay together and enter as a caravan. Later arriving Bears fans were just SOL. At Chatt, they would not reserve a spot. When we set up our fabulous tailgate on the grassy medians in their parking lot, they tried to charge us $25 in addition to the parking fees we already paid because those are 'reserved' for Motor Homes. So we moved everything. No motor homes showed and there were dozens of available grassy medians that we could have used. At Wofford, again, they would not reserve a spot and the Parking guys told us to move after we were already set up in General Parking because, I don't know, because he wanted to, I guess. Well, it was our 1st Team All-American Tailgater's last game as a Football Parent and he put his foot down - told the guy, he'd have to pry his satellite dish from his cold, dead hands if he wanted to move him. We did not move and there was plenty of room for Bears fans to join us. Most had to adopt the FU (not referring to that school in Greenville) approach to their ParkingNazi's and their threats. Maybe it was just a 'haze-the-new-guys' approach, but we did not encounter any of the halcyon experience you describe. Looking forward to seeing what we see in TheWhee, Chucktown, and GreenVegas this year...and hoping for a much better result.

You do realize this is their second season with any scholarship athletes and just third overall. We have GA Tech on schedule next year. I think we are right on course with the schedule.

Not much respect from the NC mountains for the Bears. Interesting because in 2014 Mercer (with only 1 scholarship class) goes into Chattanooga and takes UTC down to the wire (or fingertips from a tie or going for two for the win). WCU, on the other hand, hosts UTC and loses 51-0. But maybe it was a close 51-0 so let's look at the head-to-head matchup against the #2 team in the SoCon - Samford.
Again, Mercer plays Samford to within 3 points in Birmingham in a game the Bears had a legit chance to win. However, WCU goes into Birmingham and loses 34-20 and was down 28-0 late in the second quarter. Another pitiful performance in a key SoCon game. Maybe it was just a bone in their throat from the pregame meal that caused all that choking.
So while I'm not saying that Mercer is better than WCU (yet), I do think that it is a little early in the Catamount rebuilding (or building) program for them to get all high and mighty. It has been a long, painful road for WCU and it looks like they are turning a corner. Good for them. I hope they continue to improve. But they have not quite yet earned the insulting badge of honor stage.
